Construction on the long-awaited Hudson Tunnel Project, which will keep Amtrak running safely through the Northeast Corridor’s (NEC) Hudson River rail crossing between New Jersey and New York, is anticipated to start as early as March 2018. This $13 billion project is a significant component of the projected $30 billion Gateway Program, which will ease rail congestion by increasing track, tunnel, bridge, and station capacity between Penn Station and Newark, NJ.
